Louise: An Out of Body Experience

Louise

LOUISE is designed to evoke images of rag dolls, puppets and music boxes rolled into one performance art piece. The purpose is to create a sensation between the separation of the body, mind and spirit.

By choosing quick, angular, and percussive movements an eerie feeling of disassociation occurs. The character’s scenario is revealed using three musical selections which also serve to tie the piece together. The change of floor levels and the somewhat random spatial pattern create a contrast of elements.

The powerful music (courtesy of Stas Venglevski) acts as the driving force which pushes the character to discover unique elements of her body. These include: legs that won’t bend, stiff bones and joints, difficulty standing and balancing and a theatrical element of dressing for a night on the town. In the end, the music accents the sharp body movements creating a surreal sense of time and space.
